For Jordan and My advanced public speaking class, we are required to perform a one-minute poem of our choice that demonstrates any number of different stylistic devices. We could not choose any Children poems, which I was totally bummed about b/c I wanted to do Shel Silverstiens, "Ebenezzer Bleezer" (Todd, to totally could rock that one!) So, because Dr. Burgchardt has shattered my dreams once again, I'm am reciting "O'Captain, My Captain" by Walt Whitman. (That's for you Daddy) I chose this because when I was in the sixth grade I spent a lot of time in my dad's English classroom and saw it on a project so many times I have it pretty much memorized. Yes, and that was the year I also memorized the Gettysburg Address. I'm a nerd.
Jordan is doing "Red Red Rose" by the great Robert Burns. (the most famous Scottish poet EVER) He asked me, "Hey Bec, are you gonna do a poem by that guy, uh, Robert Blake?" and with a HUGE eye roll, I corrected him and then told him no because my Scottish accent is not where it should be, and to do a Robert Burns poem without a good Scottish accent would get me kicked out of the Clan FOREVER! So, Jordan is going to give it a go! Good luck buddy, pressure is on!
